The team reportedly plans to have the 41-year-old initiate the offense for head coach Nick Nurse when he is on the floor. The Sixers are also expected to receive the maximum 34 nationally televised game telecasts and streams during that season, as reported by Front Office Sports. The national spotlight will follow a roster that includes Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, and rookie V.

Windhorst also noted that last season James played off the ball more than he had in years because Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves served as the primary ball handlers for the Lakers. The reported plan also suggests the team will stagger minutes so that not all five starters are on the floor at the same time, creating roles for players like Dean Wade, who was signed to a significant contract this offseason. The Sixers ranked near the bottom of the league in defensive efficiency during the 2025-26 regular season, finishing 14th among the 16 playoff teams.
