Tina Knowles, Beyoncé’s mother, broke down in tears on national television in April 2025 while discussing a rumor that has followed her daughter for nearly a decade and a half. Speaking on CBS Mornings with Gayle King, Knowles said she was “never so enraged” about the speculation surrounding Blue Ivy’s birth, calling it an attack on what should have been a “sacred experience. ”
“What they didn’t know is that my child had been through a couple of miscarriages,” Knowles said, her voice breaking. She described the period as “one of the worst times of my life” and told People magazine it was “one of the most painful things she had ever experienced.

” To E! News, she added, “I wanted to curse some people out and scream at these losers to set the record straight. ”
The rumor at the center of her outburst dates back to 2011. For years, an unsupported conspiracy theory has claimed that Blue Ivy Carter is not Beyoncé’s biological daughter, but rather the child of Jay-Z’s alleged mistress, a woman named Kathy White, who died days after Beyoncé publicly announced her pregnancy.
Kathy Coryana White, known to friends as Cory, was 29 years old. Born in Fort Polk, Louisiana, she attended Howard University and ran a PR firm called White Label PR, working with notable names in entertainment. In August 2010, the gossip blog Hollywood Street King published a story claiming Jay-Z had been caught cheating on Beyoncé with White. The post included photos from Tao nightclub in Las Vegas showing White sitting at a table with Jay-Z and Diddy.
White denied the affair, deleted her social media, and the story quieted down for about a year. The conspiracy gained traction in 2011. On August 28th, Beyoncé announced her pregnancy at the MTV VMAs after performing “Love On Top. ” Roughly six weeks later, a clip from an Australian TV appearance appeared to show her baby bump folding inward for a split second.
The footage went viral, fueling claims that the pregnancy was fake. Beyoncé dismissed the rumors in a Billboard interview, calling them “stupid, ridiculous, and false,” and asked, “Does fabric not fold? ”
Skeptics pointed to timing. With a reported due date of February 2012 and Beyoncé saying she was six months pregnant while filming the “Countdown” video in late September, the timeline for how visibly pregnant she appeared by December struck some as inconsistent.
Blue Ivy was born on January 7th, 2012, four months and ten days after the VMA announcement. Three days after that announcement, Kathy White was found dead in her Manhattan apartment. The official cause of death was listed as a brain aneurysm. However, the original blogger from Hollywood Street King claimed an NYPD detective told him the cause of death was uncertain and that toxicology was pending.
The full toxicology report was never made public. Liz Crokin, a senior editor at Star magazine at the time, was assigned to investigate the alleged affair in August 2011. She said she spoke with White by phone, who denied the affair but admitted she was “thinking about going public” when confronted with the Tao nightclub photos. Days later, Crokin said she could not reach White and was told by a colleague, “She’s dead.
”
In 2024, Crokin posted on social media that she prayed “there will be justice for Kathy White one day,” referencing a 2016 on-stage moment when Kanye West called out Jay-Z, saying, “Jay-Z, I know you got killers. Please don’t send them at my head. ”
The story resurfaced on a larger scale in July 2024 when YouTuber Trap Lore Ross released a 49-minute documentary titled “The Disturbing Death of Jay-Z’s Mistress,” which went viral. Months later, in October 2024, singer Jaguar Wright appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored and made serious allegations against the couple, calling them “a nasty little couple who do nasty things.
” The Carters’ lawyer, Alex Spiro, sent an ultimatum to the show. Morgan issued an on-air apology and cut her claims from the original interview, stating the lawyers had said the claims “were totally false and have no basis in fact. ”
Wright did not stop there. In a separate nearly two-hour interview, she made further allegations about Jay-Z and Beyoncé, including claims about their involvement in industry controversies.
Some of her statements have drawn skepticism, though supporters note she made similar accusations about Sean Combs years before his legal troubles became public. In December 2024, Jay-Z was named in a lawsuit filed by attorney Tony Buzbee, alleging he and Diddy assaulted a 13-year-old girl at a 2000 VMAs after-party. That specific accuser voluntarily dismissed the claim in February 2025, but a separate Buzbee lawsuit against Jay-Z reportedly remained active into 2026. Jay-Z’s defamation case against Buzbee was dismissed entirely in July 2025.
In a March 2026 GQ interview, Jay-Z described the period as “hard, really hard. I was heartbroken. ”
The renewed attention also focused on Blue Ivy herself. After she performed as a principal dancer at the opening night of the Cowboy Carter World Tour in April 2025, social media users began comparing her facial features to photos of Kathy White.
A TikTok trend using hashtags like #kathywhite and #blueivy accumulated millions of views. None of these comparisons constitute evidence, but they illustrate how deeply the theory persists online. Tina Knowles’s emotional press tour for her memoir Matriarch brought the issue back into the mainstream. She admitted she is still affected by the rumor more than a decade later, describing the ordeal as deeply painful for her entire family.
The Kathy White story remains a subject of intense online debate. No court has proven any connection between White and the Carter family, and much of the narrative relies on accounts from controversial figures. Beyoncé and Jay-Z have consistently denied the claims.
Yet the timing of White’s death, the unanswered questions surrounding it, and the continued attention from public figures keep the story circulating.
