Deanna may have finally realized that fighting her mother head-on isn’t getting her anywhere.
Outside Uptown, Deanna spots Vanessa enjoying time with Joey Armstrong through the restaurant window. Clearly frustrated, she watches from a distance until Doug suddenly appears beside her. Instead of encouraging another confrontation, Doug offers some unexpected advice that completely changes Deanna’s approach.
He tells her she’s been handling the situation all wrong.
According to Doug, every angry outburst has only pushed Vanessa closer to Joey. The more Deanna attacks her mother’s relationship, the more Vanessa turns to Joey for comfort and security. If Deanna truly wants to win her mother back, she needs a different strategy.
His message is simple: kindness will accomplish far more than hostility.
Taking Doug’s advice to heart, Deanna decides to completely change her approach.
Meanwhile, inside Uptown, Joey surprises Vanessa with an impulsive romantic getaway. He invites her to spend the weekend with him in Napa Valley, even ordering his private jet to be prepared immediately. Joey jokingly offers to have an entirely new wardrobe waiting for her if she doesn’t have time to pack before they leave.
Just then, Deanna walks into the restaurant.
Instead of arguing or criticizing Joey, she greets the couple with an unexpectedly warm smile. When Vanessa excitedly shares the news about the Napa trip, Deanna enthusiastically congratulates her and even offers to recommend wineries and wine-and-paint experiences they should enjoy together.
The dramatic change leaves both Joey and Vanessa speechless.
When they question her sudden support, Deanna calmly explains that surviving the tornado changed her perspective. Life is too short, she says, and all she wants now is for her mother to be happy.
Vanessa is deeply touched.
Believing every word, she immediately wraps Deanna in an emotional hug, convinced their damaged relationship is finally beginning to heal.
But viewers are left wondering whether Deanna’s transformation is genuine—or simply the first move in a carefully planned strategy to pull her mother away from Joey once and for all.
If Doug’s advice is part of a larger plan, Vanessa may be lowering her guard at exactly the wrong moment.
