Finn, unaware of the affair, organizes the couples’ dinner believing he is fostering friendship and unity within their tight-knit group. Daphne excitedly passes the invitation to Carter, who has been desperately trying to bury the secret out of fear it will destroy his marriage and his career. According to the previews, the psychological toll on Steffy becomes visibly apparent during the meal.
She is described as a jittery mess, so rattled by guilt that she knocks her glass over on the table, creating an awkward moment that mirrors the mess she has made of her personal life. The most devastating moment comes during Daphne’s toast. Daphne praises Steffy’s devotion to their friendship, saying, “I know there’s nothing you wouldn’t do for Carter and me,” completely unaware of the betrayal.
